Julia Roberts has teamed up with the American Girl Collection doll company to bring the popular character dolls to the big screen. The original collection of dolls was made of of eight characters, each set in a specific period of U.S. history and each with a series of books written about their characters. The company has expanded to include a line of contemporary characters and previously teamed up with the Oscar-winning actress to produce a set of three made-for-TV movies based on the dolls. Production on the first American Girl film is expected to begin next year.
