While presenting an award to Canadian actor Kevin Zegers at an event in Cannes, Elton John launch into a tirade against the press. In his presentation, during which he was accompanied by Elizabeth Hurley, John said, "He is only 21 years old, already he showed incredible talent and maturity. I sincerely believe he will be a huge star and a great actor for many, many years to come." Photographers began calling out during the speech, and John reacted by shouting, "If you saw Transamerica... I'm talking... you f***wit, f***ing photographers, you should be shot, you should all be shot. Thank you." After handing the award to Zegers, John added, "They are a nightmare."
