Spring 2009 Men's Fashion: Gilded Age

Just because he's not wearing a suit doesn't mean he can't look good. Gilded Age makes high-quality, well-made and well-cut casual clothes that will have people taking him seriously, whether he's running errands or on Friday casual wear.

But what the designer did with this backstory was ultimately less interesting than what he did with the raw materials of his own trade. Focus on eco-conscious, he produces its clothing, from using organic denim with plant and vegetable dyes in its jeans to using recycled looms to weave its sweaters.


For instance, for instance. A hunting jacket in indigo chambray had been washed to bring out imperfections that added appealing texture. T-shirts were organically dyed in Japan, the intensity of the orange shade achieved by 12 days weathering on a rooftop, the indigo dipped 11 times to get its color right. The result will retail for $280.
